Camp Meechimuk

The only sleep-away summer camp for
children affected by HIV/AIDS in
Connecticut.

Camp Meechimuk will return in Summer of 2012.

Camp Meechimuk, a project of Hispanos Unidos, Inc., is the only statewide sleep-away camp serving children affected by HIV/AIDS in Connecticut. Free of charge to the campers’ families, Camp Meechimuk provides one full, thrilling week of diversion and fun for children between 6-15 years of age. They partake in numerous exciting activities such as, swimming and canoeing, arts and crafts, nature walks, sports, camp Olympics, fishing, wildlife exhibits, dance night, carnival night, astronomy night, and much more.

In many cases, these children come from broken or foster homes and from inner city neighborhoods where many live in poverty. They need attention, caring, understanding, and much love. Camp Meechimuk is operated primarily with the help of generous volunteers who commit their time to make a difference in the lives of these children, and YOU can be an active part of this wonderful camp. The general experience expressed by our volunteers is that they have come away from camp receiving more than what they have given—most return year after year. Please consider volunteering for one week, three days, or as much time as you can. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and older.

Children come to the camp by way of referral from a number of organizations throughout the State of Connecticut such as the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, AIDS service organizations, and health clinics only to name a few.

Camp Meechimuk is supported by generous funders and individual donors who share our mission and vision for this camp.
